I only discovered Judoku Sushi pretty recently, but it’s now one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the East Bay. Judoku is a small restaurant located close to 580 on the Broadway/Piedmont intersection, so it’s quite easy to drive by without seeing it.
One of the big pluses for me is the fact that they have soba. I love soba noodles, but I don’t always find them in Japanese restaurants. I was very happy to see soba noodles on the menu with an option to add tempura. I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times now, and each time I’ve ordered the Tempura Zabu Soba dish. They serve a big plate with a side of sauce in a cup deep enough to dip the noodles in it (which is how you’re supposed to eat it).
Another big plus is their sashimi. Their fish is fresh, and they cut some pretty thick slices of fish so it actually feels like I’m biting into something substantial. I don’t like super thin sashimi pieces — to me, those are what belong on top of rice.
They also have some good sushi rolls there. We tried the Bang Bang Roll, which has hamachi and unagi mixed with macadamia nuts, avocado, and unagi sauce, and it was very flavorful.
